2018 | Support Local! The Top 6 Locally Made Products at this Year's Festival

Updated: Sep 3, 2019

Kentucky and Scotland can't have all the fun. Connecticut and the Greater New England area are making some fantastic products. Here's our top picks to sample at this year's festival.

1. Litchfield Batchers Straight Bourbon

Batchers’ Bourbon Whiskey displays a beautiful amber color and releases wonderful vanilla and butterscotch notes. It has a smooth, balanced taste with a slightly peppery finish. The mash bill is 75% corn, 23% rye, and 2% barley. The two-step barreling process, which includes aging in 8-year cooperage, creates a complex yet smooth sipping spirit that also mixes extremely well with cocktails like Old-Fashioned’s.

2. Asylum Fifth State Whiskey

Proud to be distilled in Bridgeport. Asylum is all about making the most interesting flavors possible using locally grown corn to create craft, small-batch bold taste spirit sensations. Asylum Distillery never adds sugar, always uses non-GMO corn. Since their start in 2014, they try to live up to their motto, ”Distilling the spirit of Connecticut”. Highly mixable & sippable. From grain to bottle. Great neat, on the rocks, or mixed.

3. Smugglers Notch Litigation Wheat Whiskey

From Smugglers’ Notch in Vermont. This Bourbon has an exceptionally soft yet rich aroma for a high proof (90 proof) bourbon due to the care taken at all stages of its production. They carefully choose particular mash bills and blends and age them in our northern Vermont facility using various sized and constructed barrels. Only after a rigorous blending and tasting process is their bourbon ready to be proofed with pure Vermont spring water.

4. Sons of Liberty Battle Cry American Single Malt Whiskey

Created on the Rhode Island Shoreline. This American Single Malt Whiskey is born from a Belgian-style ale. Using 100% malted grains, Battle Cry incorporates rye malt and honey malt, for added spiciness and sweetness respectively. Fermented with a Trappist-style yeast strain and aged in newly charred American Oak Barrels, Battle Cry is a unique experience from beginning to end.

5. Bellis Bourbon

From West Hartford residents and owners. Unlike other young bourbons, which are typically harsh, Bellis Bourbon undergoes a second distillation process to remove impurities for a smooth finish. This proprietary process separates out the fusel oils from the flavor, color, and aroma, making the bourbon easy to drink.

6. Taconic Dutchess Private Reserve Bourbon

Made in the Hudson River Valley, NY. This is a sophisticated Bourbon. A beautiful bouquet of spice and honey with gentle notes of vanilla coming out to provide for a smooth finish. Ditch the standard and make this your house bourbon in your home bar.
